King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company Breaks Ground For New Station
King Of Prussia, Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania

The King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company broke ground recently for a new station on Beidler Road. The station will replace one destroyed by fire in February of this year. President Bill Jenaway captured the spirit of the day be stating "today the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company embarks on another significant project that will ultimately provide help when needed to the residents and visitors to Upper Merion Township. We have overcome a significant loss to be stronger and will be able to provide improved and safer service to the community".

The new 6,200 square foot station will have space for three pieces of emergency equipment, communications equipment interconnected with Montgomery County Emergency Dispatch Services and Upper Merion Township Police, as well as necessary room for fire fighting equipment, storage, and maintenance. Chief Bill Daywalt Jr., first thanked the members of the community for their support and strong work ethic with putting this project to completion." This station will be something that each and every one of us can be proud of. It has been truly and honor to work with each and every one of them. These members are the true heroes of the community" comented Chief Daywalt.

The station will be known as the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company Beidler Road Station. A six month process was involved in the design of the facility, led by past chief Gary Touchton and supported by Robin Ross, Dave Camarda, Joe Morris, Ben Burchard, Bob Littlewood, Bob Meals, and Michelle D'Amico. Auxiliary President Dee Dee Reigh led the financing committee including President Jenaway, Board of Trustees Chairman Ray Barkmeyer, Secretary Jack Scholleberger, and Joe Morris, to secure funding for the construction.

Taking part in the ceremony were President Jenaway, Chairman Barkmeyer, Chief Daywalt, Auxilary President Reigh and Building Committee Chair Touchton. During the ceremonies, Gary Touchton took the opportunity to extend "thanks to the Upper Merion Township Board of Supervisors, the Planning Commission, and Township Staff in assisting in efficiently moving the process to conclusion."

C. Raymond Davis is the general contractor for the project, scheduled to be completed by May of 2004.

The station will cost $970,000 and while replacement of the smaller, destroyed station was fully covered by insurance, community needs and future demands warranted a much larger facility with options for the future. As such, funds are needed to help pay for the new building. Officers ask that donations be sent to:
