A Letter to the Residents of Upper Merion Township
King Of Prussia, Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania
August 11, 2003
Dear Fellow Residents of Upper Merion Township,
On behalf of the officers and members of the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company, we are pleased to advise you that fire protection services to the area of King of Prussia have been returned to normal. As many of you already know, the Fire Company's satellite station at 300 West Beidler Road was devastated by fire during the early morning hours of Sunday, February 2, 2003. Investigators have identified the cause to be accidental and originating within one of the vehicles housed at the station.
Since that time, members of the fire company have worked diligently with township officials and staff, local organizations and insurance carriers to restore fire protection to the same high level of service as before the fire. Within the last few weeks, we have obtained a new Tower Ladder truck and a Rescue Engine. The fire company is now operating out of the temporary fire station located at 150 East Beidler Road, the old Genuardi's Supermarket parking lot. The Hope Community Church owns the property at 150 East Beidler Road and we cannot thank them enough for their assistance to the community and us.
The fire company has retained an architect, who has drafted the design plans and has submitted the plans to the Township for approval. Our plan is to construct the new fire station at the 300 West Bridler Road site, where the old station once stood. Our construction schedule is to complete the new station and be operational by spring 2004.
This has been a great challenge for the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company. We will persevere and we believe that this challenge will only make our organization stronger. In the meantime, the overwhelming outpouring of support that we have received from neighboring fire companies and ambulance squads, the Township and the community has greatly helped to reduce the distress associated with this type of loss.
In addition, we would like to thank all of our volunteers for their dedication to their community. The volunteers have sacrificed countless hours to help the fire company to recover from this great lose and are still responding to several hundred emergency responses and fire safety activities within the township. These volunteers are truly an asset to the residents of Upper Merion Township and we thank them for their strong work ethic. It is truly an honor and a privilege to work along side each one of them.
If any residents should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at 610-265-1063.
Yours truly in fire safety,
William C. Daywalt, Jr.
Fire Chief Dr. William F. Jenaway
President Raymond Barkmeyer
